Whether you have been laid off, your co-workers (friends) at work have been laid off or layoffs are threatening your culture…layoffs are the worst.

Is it just me or is it really hard to focus on your strengths instead of your weaknesses? I suspect I’m not alone on this one. Actually, I know I’m not.

I visited my dear friend a few weeks ago that has a newborn baby girl at home. The baby was beautiful. Sleeping peacefully in her crib, swaddled up in a pink blanket. I love that newborn smell- a combination of baby powder, Desitin and sweetness.

There’s just something about the place you grew up. It always feels like home…no matter where you live. Last week I got to go back to the place where I spent most of my summers growing up- Sag Harbor, NY.

One of my favorite books is “The Gifts of Imperfection” by Brene Brown. I’ve probably read it at least three times and have recommended it a million times. I always warn people though…it’s not an easy read. It’s kinda like wading through mud.

My mom passed away this past February. She had been sick and in hospice for about 6 months and died peacefully on Long Island where I am from. I remember when I first walked into the room for her wake being taken aback by all the beautiful flowers family & friends had sent. As I started to read the cards, a felt a small gasp let out as I read the first one…a beautiful peace lily plant from the team I worked with back in Buffalo.

A few months ago, I was debriefing a Hogan Leadership Assessment* for a colleague of mine and I picked up on something she kept saying over and over again- “I should”.

I had the honor of being a panelist at the WNY Women’s Foundation Leadership Summit last week. It was so empowering to see over 900 women (and some men too) come together to support the advancement of women. With topics such as Imposter Syndrome, Salary Negotiation, Emotional Intelligence for Resilience and a powerhouse line-up of speakers, I walked away feeling energized and part of a community for change.

I had a scary incident with my daughter this week involving one of her sports teams. And while I don’t want to get into the specifics of what happened, as I reflect back on it what keeps ringing through my head is “Where is the leadership?”
